Blue or Black?
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Mar 27, 2020 at 02:20:47 AM

Dear Cycling Family,

We have been communicating about the impact of the Coronavirus over the last few weeks.

The situation evolved faster over the last couple of days with now most of us under lockdown. Sometimes it feels unreal.

We want to send to every single one of you plenty of courage, patience and love to face this unique situation.

It's time to slow down, think and take care of people around us.

Of course, we are inviting you to stay safe at home until the situation gets better and to wash your hands with soap. Using a mask also helps to get protected.

I know it sucks to think about all those empty streets and to see your bicycle, lonely, against the wall.

We feel the same. But please, stay home.

Here in Bogota, we just started our second week of working from home and our first week in lockdown mode.

We had to stop the production of the sweaters in order to ensure the safety of workers.

We need to adapt to the situation.

We are now thinking of sending the sewing machines to worker's home in order to maintain production up and running.

Until this week, the bottleneck was the zippers delivery in China (read previous update to get more info).

Two new problems appeared for us last week: first, the borders are closed, which means that shipping the zippers to Colombia is much more difficult right now.

Secondly, the factory is now closed - at least - until the 13th of April due of course to the Coronavirus.

Let's be clear, it lowers the probability to fulfill by may the Rain Pants.

We are working hard on being able to share with you positive news about a new shipping date as soon as possible.

As you know, we are using this extra time to improve the prototypes again and again.

This week we added 4 lateral velcros so that the Rain Pants does not get in contact with the chain of your bicycle.

Here is how it looks! We could not see it yet! The picture was taken today, 26th of March by Janes.

The prototype was made in the James's house so he did not have to move.

Last, we would like to know your thoughts regarding the color of the jeans. Blue or Black?

Let us know in this one-question this survey!

Ride from home,

Roland, Daniela, Andrea, Carola and Simon

COVID-19: 7 Good News
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Mar 19, 2020 at 01:21:38 AM

Please read the text before watching the video!

Dear Cycling Family,

We are living in unprecedented times. We made this video last week and since then so many things have happened in the world.

Now the COVID19 is impacting us directly.

First, please take care of yourself by staying at home, washing your hands and sharing the info with the people you love for the coming weeks.

At MOVA, our number #1 priority is to take care of people. The team, our suppliers and of course take care of you.

The MOVA Team is working from home to reduce risks.

We also canceled some meetings we had with the factory to respect social distance this week.

We made new samples (Rain Cover, Shoe Cover, Facemask ...) from home.

We also published recommendations regarding the importance of staying at home and washing your hands regularly to raise awareness regarding the virus.

Colombia has also blocked any entry from foreigners. This weekend Bogota will be under curfew for 4 days 24/7.

Life changed. Human society changed.

At MOVA, we decide to adapt. Full of courage, strength and peace of mind.

We are resilient, creative and full of energy for what we do.

We are respecting the security measures while doing everything we can to move forward the Rain Pants project.

The last prototype is truly awesome. You will love it. It's quality and detailed oriented in every single stitch.

Bicycle has never been so relevant than today.

When everything will be solved, we will rise like a phoenix and spread our motivation to move cities towards active ways of transportation.

Thank you for your trust, your support, your answers to the surveys. You are truly awesome backers.

It's awesome to have you in those times.

New Survey! Tape Improvement and Polar Neck Design
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Mar 11, 2020 at 11:40:45 PM

Dear Cycling family,

We need to make a decision regarding the Rain Pants Seam Sealing Tape and we want to hear your voice here.

Here is the problem: when you use a needle on a waterproof membrane, it creates a hole.

So every single stitch of the waterproof membrane needs to be sealed with a special tape.

On every jacket we have created before the tape was naturally protected by an extra inner layer (a mesh in the freedom jacket and the MOVA 3.0 has two layers).

After many hours of street test, we have realized that the repeated friction of the normal pants reduces the lifetime of the seam sealing tape.

It might have a consequence on the waterproofness durability of the Rain Pants on the long run.

When we saw this problem coming, we looked for solutions. We found a tape (which is also used by other brands like Patagonia or North Face) that is more resistant to friction and will last longer.

It would increase the cost of the Rain Pants by 10 USD. Would you agree to support this improvement?

Please do not misundertand us. The tape we have been using so far works great and will do the job!

We are suggesting this improvement because we believe it will make your Rain Pants last more.

We want to design the best apparel possible for you.

We have made many design changes since the Kickstarter prototype we did not charge for and this one, we just can't handle it with today's budget.

If yes, you will be able to pledge for the improved seam tape through Backerkit which is coming soon as well.

Also we are developing a Polar Neck Protector and would love to know your ideas and which design pattern would you prefer!

As always, you vote!

How We Produce Matters
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 26, 2020 at 08:28:22 PM

Dear Cycling Family,

This is our 5th Kickstarter. Did you know we manufacture 100% of our products since day 1 in Bogota, Colombia?

In a circle of 5 km you can find our office, the fabric's factory and the place where your Rain Pants will be produced.

So we can go there in less than 10 minutes riding bicycle.

This proximity has been a key element to building a great relationship with the workers who make your products.

We want to take care of the people who are working directly or indrectly for MOVA.

For example workers in the factory stretch every hour to protect their articulations.

Most importantly, they receive are well paid and are all part of the social security system (sound like normal but it's far from being the norm here).

Also, we believe we should source as much as possible from local suppliers.

That's a way to reduce carbon emissions related with transportation.

Today, 95% of the Rain Pants inputs (like fabrics) are made in Colombia.

Ok, but what about the 5% that's left?

We source them from China, especially 1 particular item: the zippers.

We also believe transparency with the crowdfunding community is key.

That's how we want to build trust with you.

This week, we received an email from our zipper manufacturer saying that they might not be able to fulfil the order on time due to the coronavirus.

The good news is that we are still on track to deliver by May since we had included a substential margin in the schedule.

We understand how communication with all of you is vital.

Count on us to let you know about every bump on the road before it hits!

Meanwhile, relax and enjoy the show! You are in good hands.

Ride in Peace,

Roland
